With an impressive 46 points, Cuban forward Yoanki Mencía led Gimnasia y Esgrima de Comodoro 121-89 over Asociación Deportiva Atenas in the Argentine basketball league and set a personal record in the competition.

In 32 minutes of action, the basketball player was almost perfect, as he scored 12 of 13 two-point shots for a 92% efficiency, did not miss any of the five three-pointers he attempted and made seven of seven free throws. In addition, he pulled down six rebounds and recovered two balls to earn an astronomical 56 credits.

El Verde, which leads the standings, returned home to the Socios Fundadores in the first presentation of the year and swept the tournament’s bottom team, despite being surprised in the first quarter and losing 22-30.

However, according to the official site of the National League, in the second half Gimnasia came in strong and quickly turned the score around thanks in large part to the great effectiveness in long distance shots of Iván Gramajo and Tyrone White and, finally, the locals went to the break with a 53-40 advantage.

In the final quarters, supported by the figure of Cuban international Yoanki Mencía, who was escorted by Agustín Barreiro (16 points) and Iván Gramajo (14), the championship leader added one more victory and is now on track for the Super 4 to be held in February.

Gimnasia y Esgrima has a balance of 14 wins and three losses and is followed in the standings by Olímpico (11-3) and Obras (14-4).
