The Tampa Bay Rays avoided arbitration with Cuban Randy Arozarena and reached a one-year, $4.15 million deal. Arozarena was one of seven arbitration-eligible players who reached an agreement with the club before Friday’s deadline.

Arozarena last season earned $716,000, so this is a significant increase in his first year of arbitration eligibility.

Randy Arozarena is one of the 2% of «young» players who got an additional year of arbitration eligibility, known as a Super Two player, because he was called up early in his rookie season.

His salary increase came from an 8.0 WAR during his first four seasons in the Major Leagues. Arozarena is a lifetime .269/.344/.463 hitter with an OPS of .807 and an OPS+ of 130.

In addition, «El Cohete» has 48 career home runs, not including his 11 postseason home runs. Four of them came in the 2020 American League Championship Series, when Arozarena was named MVP of the 2020 American League Championship Series.
